Le retour de la talève sultane (porphyrio porphyrio) en FranceBack
Synopsis
Presentation of the species The taléve sultane, a rare species in France, has colonized the Mediterranean coast since the 1990s. The first nest was discovered in France in 1996 on the coastal pond of Canet en Roussillon in the Pyrénées Orientales department. It is supposed that this colonization is at the origin of the populations of Catalonia which swarmed until Camargue where it nests since 2007. This species is very discreet and therefore little observed in France by naturalists. The cold spell of February 2012 in our region unfortunately killed a large number of individuals. Synopsis The film was shot in a floating mount with camera and long focal length without the possibility of working on a stand. It presents the different daily activities of the species: movement within the reeds thanks to their exceptionally long fingers, feeding technique, feeding the young. Other animals frequenting the same reed bed and better known to the general public also presented: coot coot, great crested grebe, mallard duck, nutria.
